To get past this trap you will need to run through when the spikes have receded and hide in one of the safe alcoves to the right before the spikes pop out again. Doing a regular skelly fort is not good bang for the buck anymore. Too long and not good enough rewards. Same is true for the Ashen Winds (solo it is a slog, but with a decent crew and Disney sticks it's actually pretty short). Skelly fleet is probably ok with its current loot.
